8 Ways to Organize with Quilts

December 5, 2014 by FaveQuilts 2 Comments

In my opinion, the phenomenon of spring cleaning is something that can happen at multiple times during the year. Being organized is really difficult for some people. I like to believe that this is not because they don’t possess the ability to be organized, but they are unsure of how to do so. Because of this, I think that the following quilted containers and storage items will really help you out, even if it is or isn’t time for spring cleaning.

8 Ways to Organize with Quilts

With a large amount of quilted baskets on hand, you can turn your home from messy to organized in no time. Some of these basket patterns are super easy to put together, so you can make one and fill it with pesky clutter all in the same afternoon.

The best thing about baskets and storage bins is that you can leave them sitting out around the house to always have on hand, or you can tuck them away in the closet to use at a later date. These quilted containers are fun and unique patterns so they will add a cute touch of color to any room in the house. Keep organized and decorate your home at the same time!

I made boxes with lids to store my purchased patterns and used posterboard for the inserts. I had boxes I purchased for about 1.98 for a set of two, long ago and used them for a pattern. Next ones I will use either plastic canvas or box cardboard for the sides, bottom and top for stronger sides. I measured the height and width of my pattern envelopes and made my boxes 7 inches wide by 9 or 10 inches high and about 11 inches long. Cut the cardboard or plastic canvas first. Place fabric for outside and inside together and draw around for each part for 2 sides, 2 ends for and 1 bottom and for lid 1 top 4 side. Remember to cut top/lid and top sides enough bigger than box so lid will fit. Top sides are about 1 or 1 1/2 inch wide. I put a clear sleeve at the end of each box, used clear sewing plastic and bordered 3 sides with 1 inch strip of fabric so material is in seam, easier to stitch together and turn after sewing pieces together. Cut the plastic one inch narrower and 2 inches shorter than your end so there will be space to insert a paper index of the contents.
After marking all pieces I used muslin for inside. Cut out with enough for Half inch seam and enough space for the hard inserts to fit snug. Turn each piece right side out and insert stiff insert. When doing this you will see why using the fabric [n the edge of the plastic on the one end of each box.. Slightly trim a very tiny bit from the corner of the insert so it will go in smoothly. Slip stitch open end of each piece, assemble by slip stitching box together. I did this part while watching TV in the evening.
Sort your patterns. Label the contents on the end of each box. I put all craft and doll patterns together, old patterns and men, etc. Sort your patterns as you need.
Good luck, hope you can unferstand. I have no photos to post. Still learning to write instructions
