I spent last weekend at the Blogher ’14 Convention in San Jose, and bloggers, let me tell you right now: if you ever have the opportunity to attend Blogher, do it. The conference was wonderful not only for the chance to meet the sponsors and pick up awesome swag (more on that later), but because of all of the incredible bloggers who showed up. Mommy bloggers, political bloggers, craft bloggers, food bloggers, fashion bloggers, nature bloggers, slice-of-life bloggers … if you can name it, someone is blogging about it.
These writers and creators were such an inspiration, and definitely got the creative juices flowing for the editors here at Seams & Scissors! I came back with a whole notebook full of ideas and thoughts about not only this blog, but the blogs that sites like AllFreeSewing and FaveQuilts work with. FaveQuilts’ designer profile page is my favorite one on the site — I love going through to all the blogs and seeing what new designs they have out! For the freshest content, that should be your first stop.
As for the sponsors, it’s easy to roll our eyes at the commercialization of blogs and conferences, but all my interactions with companies like Skype, Glade, Angel Soft, and Hairfinity went swimmingly. You’d be surprised how willing big companies like that are to talk to you about your craft. Often all it takes is to ask one of the representatives how they work with bloggers, or if they’re interested in sponsoring some of your work. When I reminded the folks at Angel Soft how popular toilet paper crafts are among bloggers, they immediately grew excited about working together for giveaways and blog posts.
For sewists and quilters, that could translate into free fabric, tools, or books. We’re always giving away free stuff on FaveQuilts, and companies’ willingness to engage with bloggers and creators is how we’re able to give away such amazing prizes. Designers, creators, and other content-creators, remember that no harm ever came of asking!
As Arianna Huffington put it so beautifully: “Life life as if everything is rigged in your favor.”
Which brings us to what you really came for: the swag! The sponsors at Blogher gave out loads of free stuff, and we here at Seams & Scissors want to pass it along to you. So with no further ado, behold the contents of our Blogher ’14 Swag Bag Giveaway!
