DIY: Bright Fabric Scrap Wall Hanging

Hello, everyone! My name is Katie, and I blog over at Running with a Glue Gun. Today I’m going to show you how to make a fun bright fabric scrap wall hanging.

DIY Bright Fabric Scrap Wall Hanging

One of my favorite things in the whole world to DIY is wall art! Wall art is such an easy way to update a space without breaking the bank. It’s also a great beginner’s project for those who want to step their toe into the DIY world. Since I haven’t done a wall hanging DIY here on Seams and Scissors, I thought today would be the perfect time!

The wall hanging that I’m making today is a combination of painting, gluing and sewing. The sewing portion is actually really easy to do and doesn’t involve a sewing machine. Essentially what we are doing is cutting out a small piece of fabric and sewing it to the middle of our canvas. This may sound tricky, but it’s really not. Also, this project is great for those scraps of fabric that you can’t seem to part with, but still don’t know what to do with.

Besides all of the sewing, we will also be spelling out a phrase for our wall hanging. Your phrase can be whatever floats your crafty boat; just make sure it fits in the middle of your fabric. So, if you want to learn how to make your own bright fabric scrap wall hanging, then keep reading below!

Supplies:

Before Getting Started:

This is a project that is designed to be sewed by hand. Even though we’re not sewing that much, the sewing that is done would be difficult to complete on the sewing machine. I promise you that the sewing is super easy and is something that you can do while watching TV!

Step 1

Step 1: Paint your canvas and set it aside to dry.

Step 2

Step 2: Cut out a piece of fabric that can fit in the middle of your canvas. Since my canvas is 8 inches by 10 inches, my fabric piece ended up being 7 ½ inches by 6 inches.

Step 3

Step 3: Pin you fabric to the middle of your canvas and sew around all four edges.

Step 4

Step 4: Grab your wooden letters and spell out your phrase. Then, glue each letter into place and set the whole thing aside to dry.

Once your glue is completely dry, you’re ready to hang your new bright wall hanging!

DIY Bright Fabric Scrap Wall Hanging Final

I just loved how this wall hanging turned out! It would look so cute as part of a gallery wall or in an area (like your office) where you can see it every day.

Now, if your fabric is not completely straight in the middle of your canvas, that is OK! Also, don’t worry about the edges of your fabric fraying because it adds a nice look and texture to your wall hanging. Think of this project as being one of those that doesn’t have to be perfect!
