DIY: Stackable Felt S’more Coaster Set

August 19, 2021 by Katie King

Hello Everyone! My name is Katie and I blog over at Running with a Glue Gun. Today I’m going to be showing you how to make a fun set of coasters!

DIY Stackable Felt S'more Coaster Set

Summer is here which means its time for camping and those delicious s’mores! Now if you’re not a camper (like me) then your idea of the outdoors may be eating a s’more (made in your microwave) while sitting on your porch watching a sunset. Not a bad idea if you ask me!

However, if you’re a homebody and want to bring the outdoors in, then I have the perfect DIY for you! Today, I’m going to be showing you how to make a stackable s’more coaster set! So, what is a stackable s’more coaster set you ask? Well, it basically each part of a s’more (graham cracker, marshmallow, and chocolate) broken down into individual coasters. Then once stacked, when not in use, they create an adorable s’more.

Making these coasters are super easy and the project itself is great for beginning sewers. So if you want to learn how to make your own set stackable felt s’more coasters, then keep reading below!

Supplies

  • 4 Blank Coasters
  • Light Brown Felt
  • Dark Brown Felt
  • White Felt
  • Light Brown Thread
  • Dark Brown Thread
  • White Thread
  • Sewing Pins
  • Sewing Needle
  • Scissors

Before Getting Started:

This is a project that is designed to be sewed by hand. Even though we’re not sewing that much, the sewing that is done would be difficult to complete on the sewing machine. I promise you that the sewing is super easy and is something that you can do while watching TV!

Step 1

Step 1: Cut out two pieces of light brown felt which are bigger than your coaster. Then with one of the light brown pieces of felt sew a straight line down the middle. Once you’ve sewed your line go back with a needle and thread, and sew little x’s on either side of your straight line. These little x’ will represent the notches you find in graham crackers.

Finally, grab your light brown piece of felt (which we just sewed) and lay that on top of your coaster. Then grab your other light brown piece of felt and lay it behind your coaster. When doing this you should have created a ”sandwich” of felt, coaster, felt.

When all three layers are in the right order, pin the felt together and sew all the way around your coaster. Once your completely done sewing cut off the extra felt around your coaster.

You will want to repeat this step, so you will have two graham cracker coasters.

Step 2

Step 2: Cut out two pieces of white felt which are bigger than your coaster. Then create the same ”sandwich” of felt, coaster, felt. When all three layers are in the right order, pin the felt together and sew all the way around your coaster. Once your completely done sewing, cut off the extra felt around your coaster and round the corners of your felt with scissors.

This coaster will represent your marshmallow!

Step 3

Step 3: Cut out two pieces of dark brown felt which are bigger than your coaster. Then with one of the dark brown pieces of felt sew a grid consisting of one straight line down the middle and three lines across. Once completed, your grid lines should resemble a big chocolate bar which you could ”break” into smaller pieces.

Now, exactly like step 1 and 2, create your ”sandwich” of felt, coaster, felt. When all three layers are in the right order, pin the felt together and sew all the way around your coaster. Once your completely done sewing cut off the extra felt around your coaster.

After you have completed your chocolate bar coaster, you are done!

Don’t you just love the look of these coasters!

Besides making these for yourself, I think they would make a great gift for that person who is the outdoors/camping lover in your life. You could even throw in the real supplies to make an actual s’more along with the gift!

So what do you think? Do like this stackable s’more coaster set?
