February 26, 2015 by AllFreeSewing 984 Comments

Everyone loves a cute pincushion. There’s no doubt about it. Do you know what else everyone loves? FREE FABRIC and FREE PATTERN BOOKS. The good news? This post has all THREE of those things! Wow. What a lucky day this is, crafters. Scroll down for more fun and joy then you may ever have on a Thursday morning again.

Β

Pincushion Tutorials

Whether they’re shaped like a tomato or like a tiny owl, pincushions are irresistible. They’re like little pets…if you can ignore the fact that you’re sticking needles into them. Ok umm…scratch that. Forget we said pets. Maybe they’re more like voodoo dolls! Like the kind of voodoo dolls that send good vibes into the universe instead of sinister ones. Hey, if a good day of quilting or sewing doesn’t count as “good vibes” then we don’t know what does. Take a look at this list of our favorite free pincushion patterns and get crafting! They make sweet gifts, and they’re the perfect solution for the box of scraps sitting beneath your craft table. You know. The box you’ve been saving for a “rainy day.” The scraps are beckoning to you….do you hear them? Use the scraps.

PSSSSTT! Click here if you actually DO want a voodoo doll pincushion….the sinister kind.

I adore pincushions and already have started a collection of pincushions I have made myself. A chicken pincushion with blanket stitched tail feathers and beaded feet and a footed pedestal pincushion I made from a vintage ice cream dish with a white dish glued on top( I used E6000 glue) then I made a sand filled fabric bag and glued in to the dish. Finished it off with a coordinating ribbon and I have a very fancy pincushion.
I would love to win this collection since I just adore getting new sewing items and trying out new things.

Then I’d go to machine piecing+quilting; using the clover clips and finishing up with some applique work! The zipper would then go in my new pillow!

A jelly roll quilt and a quilted zipper pouch for my sewing/craft store coupons!!!

Years ago I made a nine patch baby quilt for my niece, a cathedral window pillow, and a double irish chain pillow. Recently, I made a yoyo quilt for a doll cradle.

For my next project, I want to make a quilt using a jelly roll and a layer cake and these supplies will get me started! Thanks so much!

I belong to a group called “Gifts of Love” that makes quilts, walker bags, and knits caps and hats to donate where needed. Since I am unable to meet with the group, I make quilts at home for them to donate. This allows me to feel like I’m contributing even if I can’t be there. If I win this wonderful prize, I’d make a quilt for them to donate.

I love pincushions, especially the ones made with colorful fabrics and those that look regal. It sure beats hunting for pins in my sewing basket and keeps them organized. I don’t stick myself as much when the pins come from a pin cushion, because they are sitting at the right angles for pulling out and using.

I have to agree with the folks who said they have enough projects lined up for several lifetimes. I need to live to be 1,000 in order to do half of what I’d like to do.

I have friends who just adopted a baby, and I’m the only one of the group of friends who sews. So there will be burp cloths, bibs, toys, and a quilt in the near future. And some stuff for my sister, who also doesn’t sew.

I have been enjoying sewing for many years. Just recently, I have begun to teach my daughters. My oldest is now sewing for her children. I am very pleased to see the traditions continuing and love to see what she has been making.

I would love to win this contest. Recently, my granddaughter turned 13 and started showing an interest in sewing (with my sewing machine). I think a good project would be is to make her her very own pin cushion. Then I would use the rest of the fabric for the border on her quilt … hopefully it will match.

Maybe I’ll actually win this time!
