My Vintage Dolly Lattice Quilt

March 8, 2021 by Carolyn

Hello, Quilters! It’s Carolyn Wainscott, back with a traditional quilt setting that can be used in so many ways, from scrappy to elegant. This vintage-looking doll fabric is one I have been reluctant to cut into. Can anyone out there relate? It has been in my stash for several years, but “My Vintage Dolly Lattice Quilt”  became its home. It has been brought out several times to be auditioned for other projects but never used. The deep pink coordinating cotton matched the doll print just fine, and the white seems to set off the whole thing.

The lattice setting is very versatile, and the measurements for all components can be used for larger quilts just by creating more diagonal rows.  The baby quilt measures at approximately 48″ square and could be used as a center by adding borders for a larger size.

You will need:

2 yards fabric – squares

1 1/2 yards fabric – lattice, border

1 yard fabric – setting triangles, corner triangles

1. Cut squares.

 2. Cut 9 1/2″ strips, and cut 2″ strips from 9 1/2″ strips.

 3. Sew lattice to squares, creating diagonal strips. Be sure that directional prints are going the right way.

“My Dolly Lattice Quilt” is the first lattice quilt I’ve made, and it was quick and easy, only taking a few hours for the top. It is ready to be quilted and bound.  A lattice quilt will make a good first project with its simplicity.
