I am a 68 year old, fairly new sewer. Never had time before but I am enjoying it so much now. I have never used a rotary cutter yet but hope to one of these days. I have not been able to justify the expense of the cutter and that green mat you place it upon. I use a pair of scissors as it is what I have,at this time. I appreciate so much all the hints, tutorials, etc. that I find on the WEB. I believe I have picked the perfect time to learn to sew as all this information was not readily available when I was younger. Looking forward to visiting with ya’ll again. I have made so many items ‘ In my mind’ when I look at all the things shared LOL.

I’ve read about and watched shows where using rotary cutters were demonstrated for cutting regular clothing pattern pieces. I am building the courage to try the rotary cutter but am still a bit concerned that my hand may not be steady enough. I am starting with the longer straight edges first and hopefully build my skills from there!!! I enjoy your website. Thanks for celebrating National Sewing Month with your readers!

I prefer rotary cutters, it’s so easy to cut a straight line along a ruler’s edge.

It depends on which kind of project I am working on. I usually start out using my rotary cutter. But when I am sewing my scissors are with me until I am done. I got lucky and went to an estate sale and got a brand new pair of gingher scissors still in their box for $5.00 and boy have I put them to good use.
