I don’t know about you, but I love the feeling of using a brand new crisp pattern. It makes me feel so professional and like an expert sewist. Using someone else’s designs can be very rewarding! If you are using a store-bought or printed pattern, you need to know how to pin a pattern in order to cut out your pieces. Some fabrics are not very welcoming to too many pin holes and damage to your pattern can mean messy projects. Some sewists like to use fabric weights or binder clips instead of using pins, but if you are pin-friendly there is something you can do to avoid this. In order to avoid visible pin damage, place your pins horizontally along the edges of your fabric and pattern to ensure that your seams will hide any damage!
This how to pin a pattern and how to pin fabric tip is especially useful when it comes to fabrics that often break or show any sort of damage. Silk fabrics and other thinner material can show little holes while other fabrics tend to “heal” themselves as your pin simply slides in between thicker threads.
