Tips and Tricks Tuesday: DIY Upholstery
DIY home decor is becoming such a major trend these days. Mismatched furniture with mixed patterns is absolutely huge. I’m the type of person where I need to have everything meticulously in fashion and planned out accordingly, but my homemade and thrifty side urges me towards crafting everything. One thing that is very hard to imagine or can be difficult to manage is upholstering furniture. It seams like (haha, get it?) a difficult task, but with some step-by-step upholstery tutorials, you will be well on your way to redoing all of the furniture you come across. What I love about DIY upholstering is that you will save so much money by making it yourself. Sure, you’ll have to spend a little time on it, but it is still well worth it because you won’t have to go running to a specialized store every time you get disgruntled with an old pattern or color.
If you’re looking for a bit of color palette inspiration, what I have been doing with my own humble abode is using neutral colors as a base, and then adding pops of color. For example, I have a homemade gray ruffled bedspread, but have bright blue and mauve DIY accent pillows. For the living room, I plan on using a brightly colored geometric pattern for a homemade sofa slipcover with a solid-colored chair that matches one color from the sofa. Homemade curtains and gold decor are next after this upholstery project.
