24 Golden Age Inspired Free Vintage Sewing Patterns

July 15, 2015 by AllFreeSewing

Historically, there are many different types of “Golden Ages.” Generally, it is the period of peace and prosperity within a nation or an area. This term coincides with a period of renaissance. However, when I think of the “Golden Age,” I think of the Golden Age of film. The Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, A Streetcar Named Desire, It Happened One Night, Breakfast at Tiffany’s… the list can go on! It’s no secret that I’m an old soul—and I encourage it thoroughly. T-strap heels, red lipstick, and cat-eye sunglasses were my style choice long before Taylor Swift made it a trend to go vintage. You understand! We loved the remnants of an old world, an old culture, before it was cool to do so. I was the original hipster. Get at me. Vintage clothes that fit are hard to come by, and even harder to find are vintage clothes to fit into. That’s why making your own vintage design and decor is your best option.

The Golden Age of film started after the silent movie era (another favorite) starting in the 1920’s and stayed around until the 1960’s. You might know this more as “Classic Hollywood.” It features big names such as Orson Wells, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, and Elizabeth Taylor. My personal favorite is Gone With The Wind. I could probably fill up a book full of why I love that movie and book so much. There is another vintage inspired clothing post called “Free Vintage Sewing Patterns You Need To Make Now!” and it has vintage patterns ranging from Regency (Jane Austen era) to a Jackie Kennedy inspired hat. What’s the difference between the two of these posts? This post is organized between the 1920s to the 1960s, whereas the other post is broader ranged.

In a world where everything seems to be going up, the least you can do is slow down, take your time, and try to cut the costs of clothing. Sewing your own clothes is such a cost effective way of upcycling your old jeans and clothes and creating new ones, that I’m not sure why more people don’t do it. Not to mention the sense of a job well done when you have a completed project. I don’t know about you, but I like to think that no one else has the clothes that I have (I know it’s ridiculous, but no one wants to be the same as another), and DIY clothes are a great way to ensure that you will never have to deal with the fashion faux pas of matching a total stranger.
